Students pursuing the Religion and the Arts specialization choose among three pathways: Literature, Visual Arts, or Music. Each track focuses on historical context, critical examination, and evaluation of both historical and contemporary works. The concentration mandates twenty-one credits: for visual arts or music, twelve credits must be completed with ISM professors, while literature requires six ISM faculty credits. Additionally, a minimum of fifteen credits must cover general theological studies, distributed as six credits in Area I, six in Area II, and three in Area III. Twelve elective credits can be selected from any University department, though studio art, creative writing, or musical performance electives require advisor approval and instructor consent. At least half of the student's coursework must be YDS credits. A prior undergraduate major in the chosen field or equivalent preparation is necessary.
