The History of Science and Medicine Program (HSHM) operates as a partially independent graduate track within Yale's History Department. Students in HSHM earn History degrees with a specialization in Science and Medicine history while maintaining full departmental membership. While most participants pursue PhD studies—often alongside MD or JD programs at Yale or other institutions—a one-year Master's option exists. HSHM provides comprehensive exploration of science, medicine, technology history, and related studies through intimate seminar settings, with continuous faculty mentorship. The curriculum emphasizes professional growth in teaching, research, publishing, and presenting, while Yale facilitates supplementary training in areas like exhibition design, digital humanities, and policy studies.
