Yale Law School collaborates with other university departments to provide dual-degree programs, including master's/J.D. or doctoral/J.D. combinations. These programs are designed for students seeking specialized legal expertise alongside another academic discipline. All study proposals require approval from the Faculty Committee on Special Courses of Study. Students may pursue both J.D. and Ph.D. degrees concurrently, with program specifics and residency requirements coordinated between the Graduate School, relevant department advisors, and the Law School. Separate admissions to both schools are mandatory, though applications may be submitted together or sequentially. Typically, the Law School expects joint-degree candidates to finish their J.D. within four years. For J.D./Ph.D. program inquiries, contact the relevant associate dean. Ph.D. program applications are due in early January.
