The sociology doctoral program equips students for academic and research careers. Its coursework introduces learners to sociological principles while offering specialized training. Among twelve mandatory classes, four must focus on core areas: sociological theory, statistics, and research methodologies. While specialization opportunities abound, the Faculty emphasizes mastering diverse classical and modern theories, statistical skills, and multiple research approaches before focusing. The program allows and actively supports interdisciplinary studies.
Applicants must have completed your undergraduate degree (bachelor's or equivalent) or will have completed it prior to your intended matriculation date at Yale.
