The Slavic Department at Yale University stands out as one of the most vibrant in the nation, celebrating the innovative research of its scholars and students. Our graduate program emphasizes interdisciplinary and comparative approaches to Russian, East European, and Eurasian literary and cultural studies. While rooted in language and literature instruction, we view these disciplines within a worldwide framework and interconnected cultural landscape. Through coursework, examinations, career preparation, guidance, and academic engagement, we equip students with the expertise, tools, and perspective to become forward-thinking Slavic and Eurasian scholars in the modern era. Additionally, the Department collaborates with the Film and Media Studies Program to offer a dual Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures and Film and Media Studies. For more information, consult the Film and Media Studies section in this bulletin and the department's online resources. Prospective students applying to this joint program must specify their interest in both Film and Media Studies and Slavic Languages and Literatures on their application, ensuring all submitted materials reflect this dual focus.
Applicants must have completed your undergraduate degree (bachelor's or equivalent) or will have completed it prior to your intended matriculation date at Yale.
