The Microbiology Graduate Program offers an interdisciplinary Ph.D. curriculum focused on microbial research and host interactions. Our faculty believe a multidisciplinary approach is essential for comprehending microbial biology, which is why the program prioritizes comprehensive cross-disciplinary education. This initiative delivers personalized training in contemporary microbiology, equipping students for autonomous careers in both research and academia. Specialization options span multiple fields such as bacteriology, virology, host-microbe relationships, infection mechanisms, cellular processes during microbial infections, genetic and physiological aspects of microbes, molecular structures, parasitology, microbiome studies, and microbial ecology and evolution. The initial two years primarily involve coursework. Students collaborate with faculty advisors to create customized study plans aligned with their academic history and professional aspirations. Required coursework encompasses fundamental microbiology topics along with supplementary classes in epidemiology, cellular biology, immunology, biochemistry, and genetics. The program mandates completion of at least four courses, with three being microbiology-focused, and requires Honors grades in two full-term courses.
