This program mandates that students complete a minimum of fourteen term courses within the initial three years. Typically, learners finish twelve term courses during their first two years, followed by two tutorials or seminars in the third year. Those focusing on Chinese or Japanese literature are advised to enroll in at least one Western literature or literary theory course. All students must demonstrate competency in a secondary language pertinent to their studies (approved by the DGS) by their second year's conclusion. Additionally, premodern Japanese literature specialists must pass a literary Chinese reading test by the third year's end. Before completing their second academic year, each student must pass a written exam covering both modern and classical forms of their specialization's language.
Applicants must have completed your undergraduate degree (bachelor's or equivalent) or will have completed it prior to your intended matriculation date at Yale.
