Environmental Studies provides a multidisciplinary approach to exploring humanity's interaction with nature. The program fosters cross-disciplinary learning across three key areas: (1) social sciences like anthropology, political science, law, economics, and ethics; (2) humanities disciplines including history, literature, religion, and arts; and (3) natural sciences such as biology, ecology, health sciences, geology, and chemistry. With guidance from faculty advisors and undergraduate directors (DUS), students tackle urgent environmental challenges including climate change, sustainable agriculture, urban development, conservation efforts, public health, resource management, and policy frameworks. The department offers both Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees. The B.A. track emphasizes social sciences and humanities, while the B.S. program focuses on natural sciences, particularly environmental health, ecological studies, and climate science. Both programs require a capstone senior thesis, often building on independent summer research projects.
