The Environmental Sciences (ES) program equips students to examine ecological challenges through a scientific lens. This major provides the foundation to understand how human activities affect natural ecosystems. ES students develop robust skills in mathematics, life sciences, and physical sciences. The curriculum offers specialization options in biological disciplines like ecology and toxicology, physical sciences such as geology and meteorology, or social sciences including policy analysis and environmental justice. All ES undergraduates undertake a year-long capstone research project guided by faculty mentors across scientific or interdisciplinary fields.
Alumni pursue careers in environmental consulting, public health, urban planning, and legal professions, working with government agencies, conservation groups, and private firms. The program also prepares graduates for advanced studies in environmental policy, law, medicine, and engineering disciplines.
