The History major is designed for students who recognize that building a better future begins with understanding our past. Through historical studies, students examine centuries of human innovation and experience across global and personal dimensions. As History majors, students develop skills in compelling storytelling, critical analysis, and constructing persuasive arguments for diverse audiences. They leverage Yale's extensive library collections to produce groundbreaking original research. The program encourages students to examine politics, governance, sexuality, economics, culture, intellectual movements, warfare, and social structures through a humanistic lens rather than a purely technical perspective. Among Yale College's most sought-after and varied majors, History covers virtually every era and region of world history. This discipline provides exceptional preparation for professional paths in law, media, finance, education, government, advocacy, and creative fields.
