Historical research aims to understand how we arrived at the present day. Scholars examine both influential figures and everyday people whose combined efforts have shaped our world. At SDState, history students engage in scholarly work, exploring the rise and fall of civilizations, the causes and conclusions of conflicts, and humanity's journey from nomadic lifestyles to sophisticated agricultural, industrial, and intellectual societies. This exploration includes analyzing human motivations, behavioral patterns, and the development of ideas alongside technological advancements. We also investigate national growth and international relations.
History students develop crucial skills—formulating insightful questions, conducting thorough research, and effectively communicating findings—that prepare them for diverse professions in education, legal fields, media, government, information sciences, and commerce, as well as advanced academic pursuits.
