History unlocks the meaning of today. This crucial insight often escapes many in America's forward-focused culture. To truly grasp current realities and navigate what lies ahead wisely, we must first comprehend what came before. The present emerges directly from historical events, and today's significant challenges can only be addressed effectively through the lens of the past. All degree programs mandate foundational coursework in subjects like English, social sciences, and STEM fields. They also feature unique requirements: a minor for Bachelor of Science candidates, second-year foreign language proficiency for Bachelor of Arts students, and 30 credits in designated education courses for history education degrees. These programs offer diverse historical studies spanning North American, European, and global perspectives. Following introductory classes, history majors collaborate with advisors to design cohesive upper-level course sequences. Every specialization demands 39 history credits, including 9-15 at introductory levels, a research/writing course, and at least 18 advanced credits (300-400 level), with 18 meeting geographic distribution requirements. All history students complete their studies with a three-credit senior seminar as a culminating experience.
