The Master of Science program in Biological Sciences provides a research-focused graduate degree, differing from our course-oriented Master of Arts program. Students work closely with faculty advisors, develop independent thesis projects or publications, and complete comprehensive coursework, gaining valuable skills for careers in biological research.
The M.S. program helps students achieve diverse professional objectives, including:
Seeking guided research opportunities with our expert faculty members
Developing stronger hypothesis formulation and experimental design capabilities
Gaining hands-on experience with laboratory or field research, including data analysis and interpretation
Enhancing scientific writing abilities for peer-reviewed publications or thesis work
Preparing to present research findings at academic conferences
Improving grant writing and funding acquisition skills
Exploring teaching opportunities with undergraduate students
Taking advanced coursework in specialized subject areas
Strengthening qualifications for career advancement, PhD programs, or professional schools
For working professionals, the degree may create promotion opportunities with advisor approval
You graduated with your B.S. degree in Biological Sciences or a closely related field, or intend to graduate prior to the start of your graduate work (i.e. you can apply in your last spring of your B.S. degree to begin the M.S. program the following summer or fall)
You have not already earned an M.S. degree
You earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 during your B.S. degree
For international students, you must include IELTS (minimum score of 6.5) or TOEFL (minimum scores of 80 (paper) or 550 (internet)
