Western Michigan University's strategic communication program equips students with essential knowledge and skills in both internal and external communications. This comprehensive curriculum addresses modern industry needs by developing versatile communication professionals with broad expertise. The program features foundational courses followed by four specialization options: public relations, leadership and collaboration, diversity initiatives, or media technology. Starting fall 2021, the public relations track will be offered entirely online.
Upon completing the strategic communication program, graduates will be able to:
Apply practical abilities to evaluate, adjust, and present strategic communications across various formats tailored to specific audiences and objectives
Utilize research-based approaches to analyze communication challenges at personal, group, organizational, and societal scales
Exhibit professional ethics, legal awareness, and social consciousness required of communication practitioners in our diverse global community
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
