Wayne State's Master of Arts in Public History (M.A.P.H.) equips students to present historical narratives to public audiences across various professional environments. Public historians find careers in museums, historical organizations, libraries, archives, policy institutes, parks departments, tourism, preservation initiatives, cultural resource management, nonprofits, government agencies, and as independent consultants. Detroit's vibrant cultural landscape offers unparalleled opportunities, with our program collaborating with local institutions to provide internships and practical experiences. Courses are available both on our Midtown campus and online, increasing accessibility while maintaining academic rigor. Important: The M.A.P.H. cannot be completed fully online; students may opt for in-person classes or a hybrid approach. This professional degree serves those pursuing careers in museums, historic sites, cultural management, nonprofits, government, and related fields, as well as educators seeking community-based teaching methods. Full-time students typically complete the program in two years.
