The SDSU History MA Program connects you with renowned scholars specializing in global and U.S. political, cultural, and social history spanning ancient civilizations through the Cold War period. Students gain hands-on research experience, including access to archives at local, national, and global levels. Our scholars frequently earn prestigious awards and grants while collaborating closely with faculty on writing projects, research initiatives, and conference presentations. SDSU's history faculty explore diverse subjects ranging from Ancient Greek Amazon warriors to contemporary Chinese food systems, from Roman witchcraft to Vietnam War studies, and from Aztec healing practices to modern Argentine urban life. The department boasts specialists in Iranian, Italian, German, and British history, while our American history experts investigate diverse themes including family structures, religious movements, racial dynamics, international relations, sports culture, suburban development, environmental history, and even Star Trek's cultural impact. The department particularly excels in several key areas: gender and sexuality studies, military and diplomatic history, urban development research, race and ethnic studies, digital humanities with oral history applications, and comprehensive world history perspectives. Faculty members have authored nearly thirty publications and received numerous accolades for their scholarly work and instructional excellence.
