The agricultural economics specialization focuses on economic aspects of food and fiber systems and the natural resources underpinning agricultural production and societal demands. This program equips students with knowledge valuable for both public policy formulation and private sector choices in farming, ranching, and agribusiness operations.
Economics examines how limited resources are distributed among various needs and alternatives. The curriculum helps students comprehend individual and corporate decision-making processes, economic system operations, and potential policy impacts. This versatile yet demanding course of study delivers analytical methods and enhances students' ability to solve economic problems, while offering flexibility to investigate particular economic sectors. Students explore macroeconomics (covering national output, pricing, inflation, and employment trends), microeconomics (analyzing consumer behavior and business production choices), and econometrics (providing statistical techniques for modeling economic data and predicting results). Practical applications span diverse fields including healthcare, athletics, taxation, finance, global commerce, and environmental resources.
