The General Language and Culture program offers thorough language instruction combined with studies in French and Francophone literature, cinema, and cultural studies.
WSU's French curriculum delivers both a practical mastery of the French language and fosters intellectual exploration, analytical abilities, and an understanding of global humanities, particularly within French-speaking societies. Our offerings span introductory to advanced language classes, alongside specialized courses in French and Francophone literature, film, and cultural studies, all instructed by fluent or highly proficient French speakers.

Students can pursue a B.A. in Foreign Languages with a French concentration through either the Language (non-teaching) Track or the Teaching Track. The Language Track combines rigorous language study with coursework in French and Francophone literary and cultural studies. The Teaching Track prepares students for French language instruction in K-12 education. Additionally, learners may opt for a professional dual major in French, designed to equip them with the linguistic and intercultural competencies needed for professional engagements with French-speaking colleagues and partners.
