The School of Divinity (WFUSD) and the Department of Education provide a combined graduate program designed to: 1) foster cross-disciplinary dialogue among theological studies, public schooling, and community involvement, and 2) equip students with specialized skills for excelling in professions that bridge religious leadership and education. This unique program offers career insights and possibilities beyond what either degree could provide independently.
The joint curriculum incorporates essential coursework from both divinity and education disciplines. Completion typically spans seven semesters plus two summer terms. Participants fulfill 56 credit hours in MDiv core courses and 39 credits in MAEd requirements, totaling 95 credits. Key integrative elements feature an educational internship (approved jointly by the MAEd program and WFUSD's Art of Ministry director) plus a culminating project—either research-based or through an advanced internship—that explores intersections between these academic domains. Faculty advisors from both programs collaborate with students to tailor elective selections, ensuring optimal preparation for roles combining religious leadership with public education.
