The Social Foundations of Education master's program is an interdisciplinary study examining the various societal influences on education. Students investigate how educational systems are impacted by historical, philosophical, sociocultural, political, economic, and global factors, while also exploring education's role in shaping society. Graduates work toward creating fairer, more just, peaceful, and democratic communities, pursuing careers in education, leadership, activism, policy analysis, and academic research.
Designed for flexibility, this 36-credit program offers courses in multiple formats including online, in-person, and hybrid. The curriculum covers five key areas:
Core Social Foundations: Foundational studies in educational history, philosophy, sociology, and anthropology.
Elective Options: Specialized courses in social foundations and related disciplines tailored to individual interests.
Research Methods: Fundamental training in academic research and inquiry techniques.
Community Involvement (optional): Hands-on projects in teacher advocacy, school-community collaborations, curriculum design, and grant writing for diverse educational programs.
Capstone Project: The final academic requirement demonstrating mastery of the program's content.
