Wake Forest University's School of Divinity and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences collaborate to provide a combined Master of Divinity/Master of Arts in Bioethics (MDiv/MA) program spanning three and a half years. This dual-degree initiative bridges theological studies with bioethical principles, equipping students for careers that demand expertise in both fields. Through cross-counting eligible courses between both programs—where select divinity classes fulfill MA electives and certain bioethics courses count toward MDiv electives—participants can obtain both advanced degrees more efficiently than pursuing them independently.
This accelerated pathway reduces enrollment time by approximately one semester plus a summer term. Students generally devote their initial two years mainly to Divinity School coursework before transitioning to the Bioethics Program for their final two semesters, while still taking some divinity electives. The curriculum requires 72 credit hours from the MDiv program, 26 credits from Bioethics (including a 6-credit thesis), plus 4 elective credits from either discipline.
