The Master of Science (M.S.) in ECE is a research-focused program combining advanced coursework with the completion and defense of a thesis. This thesis presents original research conducted under the guidance of an ECE faculty advisor. The Harry Lynde Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides graduate programs awarding Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in both electrical and computer engineering. These programs are available at the Blacksburg campus and through extended campus partnerships, including locations in the National Capital Region, Northern Virginia Center, Falls Church, Central Virginia, Hampton Roads, Western Virginia, and VT-MENA (with sites in Alexandria and Cairo, Egypt). Master's degree candidates work with their advisors to create study plans featuring a select number of core courses. While the M.S. program mandates a thesis, the M.Eng. is a non-thesis option particularly designed for working professionals in engineering roles across industry and government sectors.
