Remote sensing involves the techniques, scientific principles, and technological methods for gathering accurate data about physical objects and surroundings by capturing, analyzing, and understanding visual and digital representations of energy signatures from sensor systems that operate without direct contact (American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing). These sensor technologies offer dependable and economical solutions for examining both natural and man-made environments to support conservation and stewardship of planetary resources. Public and private institutions consistently look for skilled experts to apply remote sensing across diverse fields. This certification course delivers instruction in this dynamic field while offering academic credits transferable to advanced degree programs.
Courses are conducted using cutting-edge facilities within the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences. The certification entails completing 15 semester credit hours (five courses) as outlined. All remote sensing certificate coursework also applies toward the Master of Science in Geosciences and Master of Science in Geospatial Information Sciences programs, and may be pursued alongside the graduate certificate in geographic information systems.
Students seeking the Remote Sensing certificate must have completed an undergraduate degree.
