The Philosophy Department's Master's program ranks among the nation's premier terminal M.A. programs in philosophy. Faculty provide comprehensive graduate education rooted in the analytic tradition, excelling particularly in historical philosophy, ethics, and philosophy of science. Growing areas of expertise include fundamental analytic philosophy (such as metaphysics and philosophy of language), social philosophy, and environmental philosophy. Numerous students join the program to deepen their philosophical knowledge before pursuing doctoral studies at other institutions.
Our professors deliver essential graduate instruction within the analytic framework, with notable specializations in ethics, the history and philosophy of science, early analytic thought, metaphysics, and philosophy of language. A significant portion of our students enroll with plans to enhance their philosophical foundation before continuing to Ph.D. programs elsewhere.
