The Russian major and minor explore the rich history, vibrant culture, political landscape, and language of one of the world's most significant nations. Our curriculum includes language courses from beginner to advanced levels, complemented by studies in literature and cultural studies. Alumni frequently gain admission to prestigious graduate schools and build successful careers in fields like national security, global affairs, education, and language services.
Students can participate in semester-long or summer study programs in Daugavpils (Latvia), Moscow, and St. Petersburg.
Through initiatives like Project Global Officer, our program provides multiple scholarship options for the intensive Latvia study abroad experience. We're also proud to be among just eight U.S. institutions hosting the Russian Language Flagship program. This unique initiative helps students reach professional fluency through rigorous coursework, overseas immersion, and extracurricular engagement. Flagship participants follow tailored academic tracks that accommodate their varied interests while preparing them for a culminating capstone year in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
