The Classical Studies program centers on exploring the languages and civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome. This major consists of two key areas: classical studies and classical languages. Classical studies encompasses subjects like mythology, history, art, literature, religious studies (including biblical texts), philosophy, contemporary applications of classical traditions, and archaeology. Language courses focus on Latin and ancient Greek. Virginia Tech provides an outstanding environment for classical education, with adaptable programs that cater to diverse academic objectives. Numerous study abroad options are available, such as the VT programs in Rome and Switzerland. Additionally, students can participate in programs at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens or the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome, as well as join archaeological excavations in Cyprus, Italy, Bulgaria, and Romania.
