Vanderbilt's history program explores the vast tapestry of our shared past, covering everything from ethnic communities and ecological changes to global nations, entertainment evolution, scientific breakthroughs, and cultural attitudes toward sexuality. Undergraduate students often pair history with complementary fields like economics, world languages, medical studies, musical traditions, political science, psychological research, or sociological analysis.
Beyond the traditional history degree, Vanderbilt offers specialized tracks in Law, History, and Society (LHS) or a combined Economics and History program. The LHS concentration focuses on historical legal systems and their relationship with broader societal, cultural, and economic contexts, making it ideal for future legal professionals, policymakers, or public servants. The Economics-History dual major provides balanced exposure to two of Vanderbilt's most distinguished departments, equipping students with robust analytical skills in both economic theory and historical perspective.
All candidates for admission must present transcripts of work completed in high school.
