Hosted by the vibrant and multidisciplinary Department of German, Russian, and East European Studies, our German program equips students with essential skills for success in today's interconnected world. Focusing on the language, literature, and cultural traditions of German-speaking areas, we aim to help students master German language abilities, cultivate analytical thinking and intercultural awareness, and encourage creative partnerships that highlight the significance of German-speaking cultures in our globalized society.
Departmental courses, available in both German and English, prioritize developing German language competency while exploring literary and cultural studies. These classes enable interdisciplinary work across fields like history, philosophy, education, music, and visual arts; enhance professional trajectories in engineering, finance, and scientific disciplines; and provide a well-rounded advantage for those pursuing medicine or law. To guarantee language mastery and cognitive growth, most classes maintain small sizes with a focus on dialogue and participation. Cultural events including Kaffeestunde, Language Table, seasonal celebrations, and film-lecture series create additional avenues for cultural immersion. The department also provides multiple international study opportunities.
With Germany's robust economy, influential EU position, profound intellectual legacy, and pivotal location bridging Eastern and Western Europe, proficiency in its language and culture significantly boosts students' professional prospects.
