The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures provides an extensive curriculum covering literary and cultural studies, incorporating film and music. Students can specialize in German Studies, Scandinavian Studies, or combine either with another discipline. Our mission is to immerse students in exploring foreign languages, literatures, and cultures to broaden their worldview and understanding of their own backgrounds. Simultaneously, learners will discover how German-speaking and Nordic nations have shaped Western civilization. Mastering German or a Scandinavian language equips students with valuable, enduring skills applicable across numerous professions. This program caters both to aspiring graduate students in Germanic studies and those pursuing careers in medicine, law, public service, scientific inquiry, commerce, creative arts, design, and beyond.
