The German Studies Concentration provides an interdisciplinary exploration of German culture across diverse fields. In addition to core German Studies courses, students can enroll in relevant classes from other departments like History, Art History, Judaic Studies, Media Studies, Music, Philosophy, and Political Science. Many opt for a dual concentration, pairing German Studies with disciplines such as International Relations, Economics, Comparative Literature, or Art History. Students work closely with advisors to design a personalized curriculum, choosing at least three advanced courses in their selected focus area to align with their academic goals and interests.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
