German stands as one of the world's primary languages, used in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, parts of other nations, and global communities. Our program blends cultural immersion, linguistic training, and hands-on learning to strengthen reading, writing, and speaking abilities while engaging with art, media, literature, and traditions. Higher-level courses examine how history and culture influence German identity, offering insights into contemporary German-speaking societies through film, historical texts, and literary works. Build strong German language skills with Temple University's Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary German Studies through the College of Liberal Arts. This 123-credit program merges cutting-edge coursework with expert faculty and immersive opportunities, equipping students with versatile knowledge for diverse careers and global workplaces. While language mastery remains central to the Interdisciplinary German Studies Major, cultural exploration takes precedence. The adaptable curriculum covers foundational and intermediate German, with options for two electives in German history and culture from outside the department.
