The Asian Studies major is an interdisciplinary specialization under the Global Studies Bachelor of Arts degree. The Global Studies degree delivers comprehensive education encompassing fundamental language competencies alongside crucial understanding of regional history, cultural practices, and political systems - all vital for today's internationally-focused careers.
Most Asian Studies participants complete part of their academic journey in China or Japan through Valparaiso University's curriculum. The university particularly recommends immersive study abroad experiences at China's Zhejiang University or Japan's Kansai Gaidai University, where students earn academic credit while gaining practical cultural immersion and advanced language practice.
Participants enjoy multiple avenues for applied intercultural education, including domestic or international internships, campus-based cultural programming, and engagement with the university's international student community.
Upon completion, graduates receive a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies with an Asian Studies focus.
