The Global Service major is an interdisciplinary specialization offered under the Global Studies B.A. program. This program caters to students aspiring to work with international organizations and development agencies, as well as those seeking to develop global service skills alongside their primary career path. The curriculum covers social policy, worldwide challenges, and the principles and application of humanitarian service.
Students must complete at least 45 credit hours in approved coursework, including foundational classes like Global Perspectives, International Relations, and Global Humanitarianism Examined. The supporting curriculum incorporates subjects from social work, economics, political science, theology, and other specialized areas.
A key requirement includes completing the Global Service learning internship, typically paired with study abroad, along with a senior seminar that emphasizes research, writing, and analysis of critical issues in international humanitarian work.
