The MLA-Advanced Professional degree is a two-year accredited graduate program. Candidates need to possess bachelor's degrees in landscape architecture from accredited institutions. This advanced program enables exceptional students to deepen their expertise in specialized areas, guided by a faculty advisor and supervisory committee. The Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning's MLA program aims to: (1) equip emerging professionals to tackle evolving landscape challenges across the Intermountain West and globally, and (2) produce innovative scholarly work that advances landscape architecture theory and practice. The Graduate Program Director provides initial guidance to all new students until they establish a thesis focus. Thesis projects are overseen by a faculty advisor whose research aligns with the student's interests (refer to faculty specialization areas mentioned earlier). The program requires completion of at least 30 graduate credits, including thesis work. Students customize their curriculum through courses selected in consultation with their advisor and committee. Elective coursework may be focused to develop an additional area of emphasis or graduate specialization outside the department.
