The department provides various distinctive learning and professional development programs for those pursuing careers with children and youth who have disabilities. This curriculum equips students to support individuals with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities, including young children with special needs. Participants can acquire practical experience through collaborations with nearby school districts or campus-based initiatives.The special education degree serves as an excellent complement to Elementary Education, enabling graduates to qualify for dual certification in both fields.Upon finishing all major requirements, students earn a BS degree. Those pursuing a BA must additionally demonstrate competency in one or more foreign languages.This specialization trains professionals to assist students with less common disabilities, including intellectual impairments, physical challenges, autism spectrum conditions, brain injuries, and multiple disabilities. Alumni often teach academic and daily living skills in K-12 environments or transitional programs for young adults (ages 18-21).
