Economics is the field of study that examines how societies produce, distribute, and use goods and services to understand economic systems. Those majoring in economics develop critical thinking abilities, problem-solving techniques, numerical skills, and other valuable competencies. The curriculum offers a solid foundation in economic principles, creating pathways to specialized careers in policy evaluation. Economics students acquire hands-on research experience that readies them for advanced studies or diverse business professions. The Economics program offers four specialization tracks: Economic Theory, Managerial Economics, Prelaw Economics, and International Economics and Trade. Completing all mandatory coursework leads to a degree. For a BA, students must additionally demonstrate competence in foreign languages. An accounting-economics combined major is another option. Eligible students can earn either a BA or BS through this dual program. Details about this degree are available in the USU academic catalog.
