Biology explores living organisms, their origins, structures, functions, growth, evolution, distribution, and classification. Students can specialize in various biology disciplines, leading to careers in research, healthcare, education, science communication, management, government, and industry. The field trains students to question, observe, analyze evidence, and develop solutions. The Biology Department provides courses that meet most graduate program requirements for students pursuing healthcare careers after their bachelor's degree. USU health professions advising is available to students in any major, with consistently strong acceptance rates for medical and dental school applicants. USU offers exceptional training in human anatomy and physiology, including a rare human dissection course that provides unparalleled hands-on experience.
USU biology students gain distinctive research opportunities by collaborating with faculty mentors. Professors participate in USTAR (Utah Science Technology and Research) initiatives and global research partnerships.
Completing all major requirements earns students a degree. A BA additionally requires demonstrating competency in one or more foreign languages.
