The Department of Journalism and Communication (JCOM) equips students for professional paths across diverse communication disciplines. Learners cultivate expertise in key areas including research techniques, content creation, video production, digital journalism, and media analysis. JCOM scholars frequently earn accolades at state, national, and regional levels for their work in broadcast journalism, print media, digital platforms, and strategic communications. Our instructors bring more than academic credentials—they're seasoned media practitioners and acclaimed scholars with backgrounds in newspaper reporting, magazine features, visual storytelling, editorial leadership, television production, corporate communications, and digital design. The department strongly advises all students to undertake a semester-long internship prior to graduation. Through this immersive curriculum, graduates emerge with significant practical experience, enhancing their employability. Majors must select a complementary minor to develop secondary specialization. Completion of all major requirements leads to degree conferral. For a BA degree, students must additionally demonstrate competency in one or more foreign languages.
