The University of Wyoming's COJO Graduate Program provides two main academic pathways. Within human communication studies, learners explore diverse fields including intercultural interactions, personal communication dynamics, team-based communication, rhetoric (spanning classical to modern visual rhetoric), communication anxiety, and other topics.
The graduate program focuses on six core aspects of human communication research: (1) examining current knowledge frameworks, philosophical foundations, theories, and research methods in communication studies, (2) analyzing verbal and nonverbal symbolic interaction theories, (3) investigating communication within workplace environments, (4) understanding communication's role in maintaining and transforming various social structures, (5) exploring how communication shapes personal relationship development, and (6) studying argumentation's purpose in democratic systems.
