At the University of Wyoming, doctoral candidates pursuing a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a Literacy Education specialization will work alongside eight dedicated, research-active faculty members. These scholars bring varied expertise across literacy research, pedagogy, and community engagement. The program also benefits from cross-disciplinary collaborations with affiliated faculty in departments like Communication Disorders, Cultural Studies, ESL, and STEM Education, offering additional academic guidance.
Participants will engage in rigorous literacy-focused coursework, partner with professors on cutting-edge research initiatives, and gain teaching experience through undergraduate mentorship. Beyond core literacy foundations, students can specialize in diverse areas including Early Childhood Reading, Adolescent Literacy, Digital Literacies, Multilingual Education, or Literacy Assessment for struggling readers, among other focused domains.

A letter of intent describing why the applicant wishes to pursue a PhD in Curriculum Instruction including the applicants career goals the applicants prior experiences in education previous university degrees programs certificates or emphases related to literacy potential areas of focus in a literacy doctoral program potential research interests and any other information the applicant considers to be relevant to their admission

A completed UW graduate application
Three recommendation letters from those who are knowledgeable of your intellect scholarly abilities teaching ability or other qualifications for doctoral study These letters typically would be former professors supervisors or administrators the portal will send a request to each of them after you enter their email addresses
