Our nationally acclaimed master's program in reading education equips graduates to become reading specialists, literacy interventionists, or literacy coaches in K-12 schools and higher education institutions. The program caters to both practicing teachers seeking to enhance their classroom skills and aspiring educators looking to deepen their understanding of developing proficient readers and writers. Students gain comprehensive training in literacy theory alongside innovative, research-backed instructional methods, coaching techniques, and reading program administration. The curriculum includes hands-on practicum opportunities in literacy evaluation and intervention. Aspiring reading specialists must complete a portfolio defense and pass the Oklahoma Subject Area Test for Reading Specialists (OSAT), while non-certification candidates may opt for alternative completion requirements like a thesis or capstone project. Our doctoral program combines advanced coursework with original dissertation research, typically leading to academic positions at colleges and universities nationwide.
