Graduates with an international studies degree will develop the ability to identify and value the historical, political, social, cultural, and economic aspects of global affairs, synthesizing them into a multidisciplinary framework.
The program requires students to complete at least 18 credit hours across two specialized concentrations: one global and one regional. A minimum of 9 credit hours must be completed in each concentration.
Gateway courses are recommended for both global and regional concentrations. Many of these Gateway courses satisfy University Studies requirements. INST students must enroll in the Regional Gateway course corresponding to their selected region. These courses meet the COM2 requirement for the University Studies Program and contribute to the 9-hour requirement for the Regional Track.
International Studies majors are highly advised to explore semester-long study abroad programs or faculty-led international fieldwork opportunities (often available during Summer and Winter breaks) to earn credits toward their degree. Additionally, students are urged to pursue paid or unpaid international internships as another avenue for gaining academic credit in the International Studies program.
