The Department of Anthropology provides graduate programs that deliver comprehensive training across the discipline's core areas—biological, archaeological, and sociocultural anthropology, encompassing both analytical and descriptive approaches while allowing for focused specialization. The curriculum prepares students for academic careers in anthropology as well as applied work addressing real-world challenges through anthropology's holistic lens. Students engage with anthropological theory, methodologies, and key issues across sociocultural anthropology, archaeology, and physical anthropology, complemented by specialized coursework in their chosen focus areas. The department strongly promotes interdisciplinary work, with numerous faculty and student initiatives involving partnerships across UWM departments and with institutions worldwide.
