Anthropology explores human origins, development, current societal conditions, and future possibilities. The Anthropology Department provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs, along with a minor option. The bachelor's program gives students a comprehensive understanding of human existence while teaching essential skills and research techniques used in anthropological fieldwork and lab studies. These examine ecological influences on humanity, cultural foundations of behavior, and contemporary challenges in sustaining healthy, productive societies.
Anthropology's distinctive academic value lies in synthesizing knowledge from multiple fields to comprehend cultural and biological diversity throughout history. Courses spanning cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and archaeology bridge humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. This holistic approach to human studies, combined with training in cultural analysis and social dynamics, makes an anthropology degree highly adaptable for various career paths.
Our Master's program students enjoy dedicated faculty support and distinctive advantages. The program stands out through its community-building initiatives like the Anthropology Club and exceptional professional development opportunities tailored for MA candidates. Career-oriented students benefit from our mentorship program connecting them with alumni in their desired fields, while those pursuing doctoral studies receive strong support for admission to prestigious programs. Eligible residents from 14 states qualify for in-state tuition, with competitive funding options including Teaching Assistantships and fellowships available.
