This program focuses on music students aiming to specialize primarily in their principal performance discipline. Those applying for the Music Performance Vocal Emphasis must exhibit exceptional performance abilities. An in-person audition is mandatory, though in rare circumstances, recorded performance samples may be considered as an alternative. Prospective students should reach out to faculty in their specific performance field to learn about required audition materials and processes.
Voice performance applicants need to show undergraduate-level competency or equivalent experience in two foreign languages. During the audition, candidates will take a vocal assessment covering diction, repertoire, teaching methods, and other vocal-related topics to evaluate their skills.
Although GRE scores are not mandatory for applicants, those interested in UWM's Distinguished Graduate Student Fellowship or planning further graduate studies after completing their master's at UWM are highly encouraged to take these exams early in their graduate studies.
