The Master of Music (M.M.) program requires 32 semester hours, including 13 hours of core coursework and 19 hours dedicated to one of three focus areas: music education, music performance, or individualized study. Admission to the performance specialization requires faculty committee approval based on an audition and transcript review. Performance students must complete diagnostic exams in music theory and history, administered by the School of Music just before their enrollment term begins.

Qualification Requirements

Normally, a baccalaureate degree in music or a diploma from an accredited conservatory or music school is required for admission to the M.M. program. In special circumstances, applicants whose undergraduate degree is in a field other than music may be admitted to a specific specialization within the M.M. program. Other admission requirements will vary, depending upon the specialization that is selected. An applicant whose native language is not English must present an IELTS score of 6.5 or alternatively, a TOEFL score of at least 80 on the TOEFL ibt. Normally, to be considered for admission, a non-U.S. citizen shall have completed a four-year undergraduate degree. A minimum 2.75 overall gradepoint average (GPA), based on a 4.00 system, in their baccalaureate program or must have completed 15 or more semester hoursof graduate work at an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.20 or higher.
