The Department of Linguistics provides master's and PhD programs along with a graduate certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for adult and university-level instruction. Linguistics scholars examine language structure, learning processes, and usage patterns to decode this distinctly human ability and advance innovative language technologies. Qualification Requirements
An applicant must meet Graduate School requirements plus these departmental requirements to be considered for admission to the program:
Undergraduate major in linguistics or related field (e.g, languages, psychology, anthropology, philosophy).
Undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale).
Three letters of recommendation to the Department's Director of Graduate Studies from persons familiar with applicant's academic ability and achievement.
A sample of academic writing.
A reason statement.
Though not required, submission of scores on the Graduate Record Examination may enhance the application.
You must have attended this institution for at least one year and the degree was earned at an institution in the United States, and you have lived and worked continuously in the U.S since earning the degree. Cambridge English: Advanced / Cambridge English Proficiency C1 level or higher. TOEFL IBT (not Home Edition) - 79 120, IELTS - 6.5 9.0.
