Air pollution meteorology examines weather patterns near the Earth's surface, focusing on how atmospheric conditions influence air contaminants and vice versa. Professor Jon Kahl's team investigates the effectiveness of the widely-used Pasquill stability classification system, weather-related impacts on hazardous air pollutants in Mexico, models for tracking far-reaching atmospheric pollution movement, satellite-based techniques for detecting airborne particles, and approaches for analyzing and predicting sudden wind bursts.

Students seeking admission to the PhD in Atmospheric Science degree program must meet all UWM Graduate School requirements. An earned Master of Science degree is not a prerequisite for admission, however, it is expected that most applicants will have an earned master of science degree in atmospheric science or a closely-related discipline. Applicants are required to submit a Reason Statement.
