The Department of Atmospheric Science provides graduate programs for both Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. These programs combine academic coursework with hands-on research components. Participants enroll in foundational classes and select electives from our department's offerings as well as courses available through other academic units. Every student's curriculum is customized to align with their unique academic goals and research interests.
For the research component, students must engage in investigative projects that culminate in developing and defending either a thesis (for M.S. candidates) or dissertation (for Ph.D. candidates). Each student collaborates closely with a primary advisor within one of the department's diverse research specialties. The degree program webpage outlines the sequential milestones students complete while pursuing their graduate degree.
