Proficiency in Russian is highly sought after across government and business sectors, but only a handful of American colleges provide Russian degree programs. UWM's program equips majors and minors with linguistic skills and cultural understanding for professional advancement or personal enrichment. The curriculum integrates diverse subjects like economics, geography, history, and political science to provide comprehensive cultural and linguistic training. Though rigorous, this intimate program offers individualized faculty guidance. Students may participate in study abroad opportunities in Russia or Russian-speaking regions when feasible. Career paths vary from national security and interpretation to local community roles assisting Russian speakers in healthcare, social services, and public outreach.
